8 April 2011

Large quantities of unlicensed medicines have actually been taken by Department of Health officials during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A guy was talked to by department officers about unlawfully importing and consequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines via the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offences.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department’s Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its office, Peter Moore, said: “It is important that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be harmful.

"These types of products being sold, typically online, have actually undergone no quality assurance and there can be no warranty about their safety.

"You just do not know what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More notably, you do not understand the result drugs like this might have on your health.“
